Can I wear makeup after a facial?

A common question we get asked is whether you can wear makeup after a facial. Here’s what the estheticians at Rebalance Massage Clinic have to say.

Wearing makeup immediately after a facial can increase the risk of irritation, sensitivity, and clogged pores. After a professional treatment, your skin has been thoroughly cleansed and exfoliated, helping to remove dead skin cells, excess sebum, sebaceous filaments, and other impurities from the pores. Your skin may also be more sensitive and receptive to products immediately following your treatment.

Applying makeup too soon can potentially introduce ingredients into freshly treated pores, which may lead to irritation or congestion. For this reason, we recommend avoiding makeup for at least 24 hours after your facial whenever possible. Allowing your skin time to rest and recover can help maximize the benefits of your treatment.

If you must wear makeup, choose non-comedogenic products, which are designed to minimize the risk of clogged pores and breakouts. Lightweight products are also a better option than heavier, full-coverage makeup. For example, a tinted sunscreen may be a gentler alternative to foundation while still providing some coverage and sun protection.

Rebalance Massage Clinc offers medical-grade GM Collin products, including a range of SPF options from 25–45, to help protect and care for your skin after your treatment.

If you have any questions, Rebalance’s estheticians are more than happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
